February 8 Shabbat Service
NOTE: This Shabbat service is being held at a new location for us.
One of the purposes of doing this is to gauge whether this location will work
for us for future Shabbat services, so I hope that a lot of you can attend so
you can give us feedback on the location.
At 7:00pm, we will hold a Shabbat service at National Jewish. Our
special guest will be Rabbi Brian Field of Judaism Your Way. Rabbi Field
will discuss Rabbi Michael Lerner's recent talk at the Colorado Islamic Society.
Details about the topic and Rabbi Field are below.
Detailed directions will be posted soon.
“The Left Hand of God”
On January 6, Beth Ami member Terry Fleischer attended a talk by Rabbi Michael
Lerner, editor of Tikkun magazine and co-founder of the Network of Spiritual
Progressives, at the Colorado Islamic Society. To the best of our knowledge,
this was the first time that a rabbi has ever given a talk at the mosque. The
place was packed. Our guest for our February 8th Shabbat service, Rabbi Brian
Field of Judaism Your Way, was also in attendance at the mosque and he
will share some of what Rabbi Lerner discussed. The title of Rabbi Field’s
talk, “The Left Hand of God,” is the name of Rabbi Lerner’s book in which he
explores his ideas more fully.
Rabbi Brian Field received his childhood Jewish education in Vancouver, Canada
through the Peretz Shul, a secular, Yiddishist and humanistic school dedicated
to the educational principles of the great 19th century Jewish writer, Y.L.
Peretz. After being ordained in 1994 at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical
College, Rabbi Field has served congregations in New Jersey and Wisconsin, and
worked as a hospital chaplain. He moved to Denver in 2004 to become the rabbi
of Judaism Your Way. Brian is married to Debbie Zucker, a psychotherapist in
private practice. Brian and Debbie are members of Bnai Havurah, the Colorado
Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, and are the parents of an 11-year-old
daughter.
Judaism Your Way is a Denver-based Jewish outreach organization dedicated to
respond to and cultivate the uniqueness of each person’s and family’s Jewishness.
Wherever you are on your Jewish journey, we’ll meet you there. www.judaismyourway.org
