August 27-29 Events with Harriet Maza

Dear Beth Ami Members and Friends,

Beth Ami will welcome Harriet Maza of the Society for Humanistic Judaism (SHJ) the weekend of August 27-29.  Although the main purpose of Harriet’s visit will be to conduct teacher workshops and help get the new Sunday School off to a good start, she will also participate in a Shabbat service and be available for more informal discussions regarding SHJ.

Harriet, SHJ education associate and editor of the Humanorah, is a former high school English and journalism teacher and the recipient of a national Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Award (1993) for "outstanding contributions to journalism education in the nation.”  She is a former Birmingham Temple Sunday school principal and the creator of much curricula and holiday family service programs.

The following is a schedule for the weekend:

Friday, August 27 at 7:30.  Shabbat Service at The Aspens at Lowry, 2nd floor meeting room, 150 Quebec St., Denver, followed by an Oneg Shabbat and further discussion.  This is a public event.  Please join us.

Saturday, August 28, 9:00-4:00.  Harriet conducts a curriculum and school management workshop for Sunday School teachers and aides at 9225 W.68th Place, Arvada.  Anyone interested in helping out at the school is encouraged to attend and should contact Gerrie Karasik at 303-422-3110 or lgkara@aol.com to get directions.  Dinner following workshop with Education Committee.

Sunday, August 29, 10:00-12:00.  Sunday School Open House at the Denver Jewish Community Center, 350 S.
