Jan 18th Event
Book Discussion Group
Dear Members and friends of Beth Ami/CCHJ:
We think it is a good idea to resuscitate discussions among us about our Jewish
humanistic heritage. To accomplish that, we propose to start a book discussion
group starting January 18, and to continue, alternating weekly, for five more
sessions. We will meet in room 205 at the Jewish Community Center in Denver. If
you need directions, please contact me via email or call at 303/696 8237.
Steve Greenspan and I invite you to consider joining the group. To get us going,
we will start with Judaism Beyond
God, Rabbi Sherman’s statement of humanistic Jewish tenets. Please
let me know if you wish to join. The number of people is limited by the optimum
size of such a group so the sooner you reserve space for yourself, the better.
Should many more of you wish to participate we would see about other
possibilities.
We have arranged for the room and coffee. The JCC permits only kosher food; if
you bring your own please make sure not to violate their rule. The cost person
is $25 for the six sessions, including the coffee. The first meeting will be
organizational. We’ll discuss the format, the role of the leaders, whether we
want to order food from the kitchen and anything else that comes to mind. We
will have copies of the book available.
Let me know if you wish to be part of this enterprise. If you are not
interested, a negative response would be helpful though I suppose a lack of
response will carry the same message (but would add to more paper shuffling on
our part).
Steve Greenspan will help in this enterprise.
