May 13th Shabbat Our next Shabbat service will be held on May 13, at 7:00, at the Aspen Village, 150 Quebec St., northeast corner of 1st and Quebec, in Denver. The featured speaker will be Phil Goodstein, talking about “Heretical Judaism; the Side of Judaism that Denver Denies Exists.” Myth-busting historian Phil Goodstein is best known for his book, The Seamy Side of Denver. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Colorado, is a fourth generation Colorado native who has conducted numerous walking, restaurant, bicycling, and cemetery tours of Denver through Colorado Free University, and has taught at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Dr. Goodstein has written numerous articles and books about Denver and its history. His material may be found at The Center for Judaic Studies/ Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society (at Penrose Library--University of Denver), the Western History Department of the Denver Public Library, the Colorado Historical Society, and in the Auraria Higher Education Center archives. Don’t miss this somewhat irreverent approach to Denver and its religious establishment. An Oneg Shabbat will follow. If you are planning to come and would be willing to provide food for the Oneg, please contact Joyce Kohn at 303-639-1120 or joycekohn@estreet.com. We need about 3 people to volunteer to do this each month and would like to spread the burden around so that no one person has to it more than once or twice a year. Thanks. |
