Jewish Literature: Reading and Discussion
What: Following a potluck dinner and Havdalah service, a taste of
Jewish literature from the shtetl to Israel and America, presented by Malka
Mittelman-Seifert.
 | Enjoy the wit, wisdom, and humor of the giants of Jewish literature. |
 | Savor the "laughter through tears" of Sholom Aleichem. |
 | Revel in the irony of J.L. Peretz as he calls for justice; the poetic
beauty, pathos, and idealism of Saul Tchernikshowsky and Bialik. |
 | Move to the rhythmic cadence of Yehudah Amichai's expression of love for
his land, Israel, and the Jewish people. |
 | Study the poetry of protest by Jewish American labor poets. |
 | Discuss what will constitute the continuing link to perpetuate Humanistic
Jewish life and literature in the future. |
