Overview
The Beth Ami-CCHJ
Jewish Cultural School (formerly known as Sunday School) serves children ranging in age from Kindergarten through Seventh
grade. The program
strives to impart and share a positive Jewish identity by presenting Jewish
traditions, history, culture, values, and ethics through a humanistic and
secular lens.
We want our
children to develop both self-esteem and respect for others, to take
responsibility for their own actions and understand the value of community
service. We encourage
our students to be problem solvers and be able to think for themselves.
We strive to
create a community of learning in a warm, supportive, and enjoyable environment
in which each student may explore and strengthen his or her Jewish identity and
humanity.
Parent Participation
Parents sign up to provide snacks and drinks for the classroom on a rotating
basis. The schedule is posted under the Schedule tab above.
Each school session begins as a group to
establish community and share the holidays and customs. After this
introduction, the classes will split up by age for the remainder of the school
day. With the exception of the first 20 minutes of class which are used
for review of the previous class and previewing the day's units, parent are
welcome to observe other units and to help out with the craft activities.
Parents are welcome to share a special event or knowledge. Please feel
free to talk to us and set up a time for an activity that you may wish to do
with the class.
Parents are also welcome and encouraged to participate in overall school
planning and administration through the Beth Ami-CCHJ Education Committee.
